The Falcone has a brand new speedo. Ready for tomorrow. Thanks to @guzziretro and @teolamers for finding it for me. Looks fantastic and now I know how slow I’m going.
Riding with my daughter on the Falcone sidecar at the distinguished gentleman’s ride. The whole family enjoyed the day out and team GuzziRacer Australia we raised over $1400.
Happy 10th Birthday Francesca. Our faithful Vespa. She comes everywhere with us, holidays, races. Always in the van ready to help out.I had no idea I could love something not manufactured in Mandello Del Lario

A year ago today we lost Dave Roe. An absolute Guzzi nutter who knew more about RaceCo Daytona’s than anyone else in Australia. His No1 Daytona Racing (RaceCo) Guzzi won the Ducati Concourse in WA on numerous occasions. Back in the day he actually raced a Mk2 LeMans. That’s proof he was crazy! He was a fantastic man and I loved him like a brother. Cheers to you Dave Roe. The world is a much poorer place without you.
This is the first Magni Australia. Built by Australian Guzzi importer Ted Stolarski with help from Arturo Magni and the Guzzi Factory. This bike was first raced in 1990. It must have had one of the very first 4V engines from the Guzzi Factory. Magni later released the Magni Australia paying homage to Teds Race Bike. These photos were taken. In 1993 at the iconic Mount Panorama Racing Circuit in my home town of Bathurst Australia. This bike still lives in Australia and is regularly ridden. The Pilot in these shots is Wayne Gow. A well known Aussie racer that is still competing in classic racing on a V7 sport (1972). Wayne is known for his competitive nature and his versatility. This year at the International festival of Speed I saw him step off his Guzzi and straight onto a TZ 750 that someone asked him to race. How does one adjust his head to make that leap?
Guzzi Motobox Classic Endurance Racer. I just acquired this machine after many years of patient asking. This bike was very successful in the FIM Europe Endurance Classic Cup. In the short term I have no plans to race it. My first job is to return it to the original race spec.
Moto Guzzi RaceCo Daytona 1288 project is getting close. Motor, suspension & electrical almost done, Just final bodywork fit and paint. It’s a beast! This bike has been built with all original race parts from the West Australian RaceCo campaign in the 90’s. It will be having a run in the Bears next year for sure. Yes that’s right I’m going to race it. What else would you do with it?

I found the second Motobox Guzzi, so now both bikes are back together again. Now the task of restoring the No1 bike as close as possible to Manel’s original 2010 machine. The second bike was actually built from spare parts that came to Australia with the original race bike. I had to buy it in order to get the original mag wheels back. So now I have everything. After I restore Manel’s original race bike I will have enough parts to build a race bike to run in Post Classic Period 5. I haven’t raced on a Tonti frame since 1988 so I’m unsure how I’ll go. A first world problem i know

Moto Guzzi Daytona finally back on track at the PCRA Championship. First outing with the new motor. It’s not as fast as the old one? Anyway it’s a day out.
Moto Guzzi Daytona finally
Moto Guzzi Daytona keeping the rice burners honest. Turns out the bike was running fine. I just needed to pull my head out of my arse. Better still both conrods are still inside the crank case.
Breaking News! Coming to a shed near me. Fresh from the UK. RaceCo Moto Guzzi Daytona 1225.

RaceCo Daytona 1288 back on track. The bike performed well all weekend. The front end is the best I have ever ridden on. Better than my MGS01 (ohlins) in fact. I have been a little apprehensive about riding this bike. The torque and power delivery is absolutely brutal. It seems I am now used to it as the only mishap for the weekend was a broken throttle cable because I was trying so hard to wring more power out of it
@fstylephoto with @get_repost ・・・ The road racing track at the Broadford Bike Bonanza was graced with some beautiful machinery such as this Moto Guzzi. After riding this track countless times I've never actually ventured around it as a spectator so it was great to head over to crash corner and snap a few shots of these classics about to start their braking for this notorious corner. #
RaceCo Daytona 1288. We have replaced all the original RaceCo bodywork( to valuable to trash). We basically copied the UK RaceCo design and fittment from the new (red) bike. It’s now ready for battle in the Darwin round of the Australian National Bears. One last practice day next week. How tuff does it look. Bloody hell
The RaceCo boys went for a winter test this week before we ship them to Darwin for the National Bears round. The 1288 was flawless. The 1225 was a fail. The clutch was slipping so badly I had to pack it up after only 4 laps.. On the bright side we shot some video footage while we were testing. A first for me was riding with a gimbal and a GoPro strapped to my back. We will be posting a video in the next few days.
Moto Guzzi MGS01. This one belongs to my mate mark. It is one of 6 in Australia. A 7th bike disappeared to NZ last year. I know where that all are but one in SA. Mark rode his bike last month at a track day and said it was the best day he has ever had.My bike hasn’t seen a track for 3 years. I plan to change that shortly as I just acquired spare bodywork for it and some assorted race spares. That gives me some confidence to return it to the race track. There is not really a class that it fits other than Australian Bears. That’s more like a smash up derby than racing which is why I shy away from it a little.
RaceCo Daytona arrives in Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory for a round of the Australian National Bears Series. The Bears come every 2 years. It’s an 8000km round trip for us. We flew up, but the bikes came on a dedicated transporter. Not sure why I got the KTM and not my bike. The guy holding my bike races a panigale. He couldn’t believe how heavy my Daytona is. I though it was light? He’s just not used to tractors.
Life in the Bears pits in Darwin. Escaping the Northern Territory heat. The races are 10 laps but it feels like 100. Still managing 3rd in class with 1 round to go. Had a fright today when in the mid afternoon race I arrived at the end of the 1.25km main straight at 250kph only to have my brake lever come right to the bar. Some frantic pumping got enough lever to negotiate the 2nd gear turn 1. I pumped the leaver up for the last 5 laps to keep pushing the fluid back in and finished in fifth place. We have replaced the fluid now so hopefully all will be well for the last race. It’s not the first time this has happened to me. I’m running 90’s period narrow track 6 spot brakes. They appear to be a little susceptible to overheating.
RaceCo Daytona 1288 hole shot from 2nd row of grid at the National Bears Challenge in NT Australia. It’s a Beast! Finished the weekend with a second place in round 4. Had a great battle with the Redax Laverda and held Smarty off for most of the race but in the end he was too good for me. It is so cool to have these two significant motorcycles racing against each other. It was a real treat for everyone, especially the pilots.
RaceCo Daytona 1288 at Darwin in the Northern Territory AUS. Best finish was 2nd in class and 3rd outright in the very last round of racing. Thanks to Dave from Pirelli who helped me get the suspension and tyre pressures right. It was my first time in Pirelli slicks and a real learning curve. The torque and weight of the Daytona was a challenge for rear tyre degradation. What a great week. We road for 7 days straight and all it cost was $400. The TERRA club in Darwin are fantastic. The track is beautiful. As smooth as Phillip Island and heaps of fun. I’ll go back next year for sure. Now I’m frantically getting the bike ready for the Aussie Historic titles in Western Australia. We are driving over. This RaceCo Daytona was born and raced in WA. It will be nice to take it home. I will be running all the original bodywork for the occasion.
The Van is packed and ready for the 3800km drive to the AHRRC at Collie in Western Australia. The Moto Guzzi RaceCo Daytona is returning to its birthplace of WA for the National Championships. It’s even running its original bodywork for the occasion. We are making a holiday of it and have 3 weeks to get there. This bike will travel 22000 kilometres this year competing in 5 States all across Australia.
Disaster strikes the RaceCo Guzzi. Half way through qualifying the fuel line petcock flange snapped off the fuel tank and dumped the tank of fuel into the belly pan. We use the bolt on flanges from a Centauro fuel tank. We run two 10mm petcocks from the Daytona. They need to be that big to feed enough fuel to the 48mm mikuni carbs. Looked like weekend over until another competitor rang his nephew in the next town and got him out of bed( night shift worker). he is a welder and got us going again. We will miss the 2nd qualifying but comfortable on 2nd row of the grid in 6th position so hopefully I’ll stay there. The grids are not progressive so qualifying is important. Long way to drive for no racing. The locals at collie are great and so the club running the event
I have been invited to race at the 4 Hours of Spa Classic over the next couple of years with my friend Peter Jansen. He is building a bike for us to ride together. While Peter is a highly credentialed and seasoned campaigner, I am sadly lacking. Not only have I never raced longer than 10 laps in my life, I haven’t ridden a Tonti framed bike on the track since 1988. So this is my practice bike. First ride next week. I don’t think it’s going to be pretty to watch.
UK RaceCo 1225 update. Lots of work has been done to get this bike ready for Aussie Bears next season. Heading for a track test next Tuesday. Upgrades include RaceCo exhaust system, new clutch, belly pan, fuel pump, stack tacho, rewire, Drivetech oil cooler. Still to come are new suspension and brakes. I can’t wait to see if it’s any good.
We are testing today at Wakefield park. Lots of niggles with the RaceCo Daytona so I’ve packed it up for the day. It takes time to sort a new race bike. Work in progress. As for the Tonti 1100. Holy moly it’s an absolute hoot. First time on a race tonti in 30 years. Once you get used to no brakes it’s all good
The Motobox Guzzi was awesome at the track today. It has a pretty radical frame geometry and I was a little nervous but it handles like a dream. Turns in like a 250 prody . The Avon tyres were unbelievable. My first time on them. What a great tyre! The 18” front end was no bother. I had an absolute ball. And it’s pretty quick.
The Moto Guzzi RaceCo Daytona 1288 is back together again after some engine surgery. Turns out the engine fault at the Aussie Historic titles was a rear main oil seal. We have never heard of this type of failure before. This wonderful motorcycle has raced hard all season and is going to get a rest next year while we develop the new RaceCo 1225. It’s going to be hard to leave it in the shed as I think this engine is much better than the 1225. We have just refitted the original full race fairing. We have not run the bike with this fairing before. It would be a big improvement at Phillip island. I think the fairing is very rare. I met a guy in Western Australia who has the identical fairing on his Daytona. He sent me a magazine article from the US about a Daytona that also had this fairing fitted. So there is at least 3. If anybody out there knows anything about where it came from please let us know.
The new RaceCo Daytona 1225 performed well at the track test today. New suspension and brakes were superb. All set for an exciting 2020 season of Australian Bears Racing. Even shouted myself new leathers, thanks to @ricondi. It was 38 degrees today at the track. It really sucked.
The boys are being loaded to go to our final test day before the season starter at Easter. This year We are running the injected UK RaceCo 1225cc in the Aussie Bears National Series. Our faithful 992cc Carbureted Daytona is performing the Spare/Wet duties this year. We are running a new front fairing on it this year to give me a bit more to hide behind on the faster tracks we are visiting. While I love the look of the LeMans bikini fairing, it’s not much help at tracks like Phillip Island and Hidden Valley. Exciting Times!
Test day success. Team GuzziRacer Australia had a great final day of preparation before the commencement of the 2020 season. This year we are running in the Australian National Bears Series. It was a picture perfect day at Wakefield Park Raceway and despite fuel problems with both bikes, the day ended with a sigh of relief. We are ready to race.
World First??? RaceCo Daytona 1225 with 6 speed gearbox. Our COVID isolation project is complete and we are testing at the track next week. Thanks to Paul’s Fast Guzzi ( fastguzzi.nl ) for great tips on shoehorning a 6 speed gearbox onto a Daytona. It’s the little things you don’t think of, like remaking the exhaust system because the engine is now 10mm to the left. We will keep you posted
RaceCo 1225 Daytona 6 Speed project test day. Mixed success. Gearbox was fine on the bench but under load showed problems with 3rd & 4th gears. Still the driveline felt strong and the bike behaved well with the new engine position. So we have proof of concept. Back to the workshop to rebuild the gearbox. It had to come out anyway as it has an oil leak when dead cold. Wakefield Park was truly horrible with a top temperature of 6 degrees during testing. Like ice skating.
